Poem A Day Challenge #9

Laurie’s assignment today: write a pantoum

Liberties have been taken. I’m trying to be a little less rigid when it comes to form. It makes me feel uneasy when it’s not exact – like I’m a little girl who got caught and now stands before disappointed parents.

6:30am the alarm clock blares –
Radio DJs and static play.
The boy takes care of himself
and I get dressed.

Radio DJs and static play.
It’s Monday: laudry is whites/socks/undies.
Getting dressed takes ages.
Time to pack lunch and head to school.

It’s Tuesday: laundry is shirts,
hang them out on the line.
After lunch I head back to school
then check the menu to get dinner prepped.

Pull the clothes off the line.
Wednesday means early therapist.
Check the list, who’s prepping dinner?
Shit – I forgot to unload the dishwasher.

Thursday therapist, Jonathan teaches.
Leftovers sound good to me.
I remembered to unload the dishwasher.
Now PJs, storytime, cuddles.

Friday – leftovers or take out?
7:30pm it’s the bedtime alarm.
Brush teeth, PJs, stories, snuggles.
I love taking care of this boy.
