Laurie asks us to focus on a color
Yellow is my nemesis
the color of my jealousy.
She glides through the day
lithe and loving like a
sit-com mother.
I watch, transfixed, as she
brightens every room
she touches, her laugh
lingers warm like the
smells of drying bedsheets.
In my quilts I have tried
to use her, include her.
She could lift and highlight
the fabrics in a pattern like a
benevolent glowing goddess.
But I am never able to match
her, my attempts are clumsy.
She, however, encourages me to try again
and places my hand upon her heart like a
wreath of roses on a grave.
Man, oh man. I love the turn you put on yellow, nemesis.
